Not a thing. The name bbc was chosen to mirror bbs and be the logical complement of that entity.
Dave's Own Citadel, a reference to its descent from the Citadel/UX software, as well as the two original coders, Dave Nelson and David Lacey.
Bulletin Board System. It's a software system created to allow multiple users to converse, sometimes real-time, sometimes over the course of days.
It's a BBS using the [recently re-found] DOC source code, or a derivative or descendent of that code, in particular supporting the client-server protocol created by Doug "Serendipity" Siebert. Speaking loosely, the term can also be applied to work-alike efforts, such as Jason "Firebird" Bell's codebase.
There are several. The oldest and first BBS to use the DOC code base is ISCABBS, the BBS established by the Iowa Student Computer Association.
Another notable and early established DOC BBS is HeinousBBS .
The DOC BBS I tend to spend most of my idling time on is Eschwa.
If the system gives you a login: prompt, type bbs. There should be no password. After that or if there was no login: prompt, you should get a welcome banner for the BBS explaining that if you don't have an account you should type New at the Name: prompt. Many DOC BBSes will have a Guest account you can use by typing Guest at the Name: prompt, just to see what the system is like. Helpful things to know are that if you're telnetting to a DOC BBS, almost every key is a hotkey and 'h' and '?' are both very likely to provide you with helpful information.
